The Storm Sister is the second book in the
Seven Sisters series and revolves around Ally (Alcyone).
Ally is an avid sailor and is offered a
rare opportunity to take part in a very prestigious race. During the preparations
for the race, Ally keeps fighting it but finds love. However, tragedy strikes
and Ally has her life upended when she loses her father as well as someone very
close to her. Reeling from the tragedy, Ally takes solace in music, a passion
of hers that was put aside for years. Through this rediscovered part of her
life, she meets someone who will ultimately bring her closer to completing her quest
to find out where she comes from as she delves into Anna’s story many years
previously.
While I truly felt for Ally in this story,
I found the whole music section a little too convenient. It seems that each of
these girls has these amazing talents that they have somehow inherited and I
have a feeling it will be the same thing each time. This kind of talent is not
necessarily passed down and just because someone in your family was amazing at
something it doesn’t necessarily mean you will be too! A lot of the book led
nowhere and I wasn’t as vested in the story, so much of it I actually forgot just
after I finished the book. We seem to be finding heroines in the girls’ pasts
that have been used by others and in their own “plucky” way will rise above it.
Theme developing?
I’m very ambivalent about the series, but
since I’m only on book two, let me not say too much until I’m further in. I
really hope I don’t get to the end (the books are quite long at over 600–700
pages) and find it just goes blah…
